A Homecoming of Remembrance at Christ Church, Meaford

Christ Church Anglican, Meaford, has welcomed a remarkable new addition to its WWII memorial: a propeller blade from the Hawker Hurricane flown by Sgt. George “Geordie” Stevenson, a parishioner and the first citizen of Meaford to die during the Second World War. The artifact, preserved for decades in Scotland and recently gifted to Sgt. Stevenson's descendants by the Leadhills Miners’ Library, now serves as a tangible link to Stevenson’s sacrifice and service. Sgt. Stevenson's family has asked that the propeller blade remain at Christ Church, where he had been a valued member of the community. Its arrival strengthens the church’s longstanding commitment to remembrance while celebrating enduring ties of friendship and gratitude between Canada and Scotland. A special service to mark the 80th anniversary of Christ Church's internationally recognized WWII Memorial Windows and to dedicate the propeller blade will take place on Saturday, August 15 at 2pm.

Steady Among the Waves

By the Rev. Jim Innes

This year's spring season here in Grand Bend has brought both comfortably warm, mild days and bitter, windy days. Some days the waves gently lap the shore, while on other days they crash loudly. It is a season of transition, a time of natural tension, holding calm and turbulence together.

This paradox is being lived out in other ways that touch us all. Keep reading.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

STEWARDSHIP

The first Friday of the month, eNews Weekly will feature a stewardship article. On the remaining Fridays of the month, it will include a brief stewardship thought suitable for inclusion in Sunday bulletins. For more information about stewardship initiatives and support, please reach out to kevindixon@diohuron.org.

Stewardship Is a Way of Life

Stewardship begins where belief becomes action. It is more than financial support; it is the daily offering of our time, abilities, relationships, and resources in response to God's generosity. Every act of kindness, every prayer, every welcome extended, and every gift shared is part of our stewardship. As we intentionally recognize these moments, we discover that stewardship is not another parish program — it is simply the Christian life lived with gratitude.

Moments From St. Paul's Cathedral, London

Six-past-six was an experimental summer series hosted by St. Paul's Cathedral across four Tuesday evenings. The initiative showcased artists from various genres whilst supporting downtown restaurants and highlighting a local winery.

One of the best outcomes was the number of non-churchgoers who likely stepped inside a church for the first time. Their positive response to the welcoming atmosphere and beautiful lighting reflected the impact of the refurbishment project completed last year.

St. Paul's hopes the series demonstrated the church's role as a place of community, welcoming people beyond the faithful few on a Sunday morning.

Thanks to the Paul Seed Fund, whose generous support provided about 75% of the funding for the series.
