Honouring a Legacy: The Leighton Archives
As mentioned in last week's issue of eNews Weekly, The Archives is relocating from Huron University College to St. Paul's Cathedral, where it will reopen as The Reverend Canon Dr. J. Douglas Leighton Archives.
The new name honours Dr. Leighton, a historian, professor, and Canon Historian whose leadership was instrumental in establishing and preserving the Diocesan Archives. In the 1970s, he recognized the urgent need to protect records at risk of being lost and worked to bring them together into a single, accessible collection. Through his vision and dedication, the Archives grew into a vital resource for the Diocese, preserving generations of history. Naming the renewed Archives after him reflects his enduring impact and lasting legacy.
Dr. Bill Acres and Dez Nacario wrote an article about Dr. Leighton and the naming of The Archives: Borrowing the name of a man of many titles.
NEWS
'The Wind Blows Where it Wills' (There Was a Time in My Life...)
By The Rev'd Canon Christopher B. J. Pratt
There was a time in my life which was highlighted by the annual invitation from my uncle to go sailboat racing with him. It was a time when all the other elements of life were set aside and it was simply the two of us facing the challenge of the racecourse in competition with others. Keep reading.
Easter Eyes: Seeking New Life
By The Rev'd Jim Innes
When something goes wrong, many of us immediately look for someone or something to blame. For reasons that often run deep, we slip into self‑protection and reactivity, and our responses can be stronger and harsher than the situation warrants. Keep reading.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Camp Huron’s Say Yes to Kids! campaign is continuing, with funds raised supporting bursaries and leadership development opportunities for children and youth.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are on the verge of reaching $20,000 raised. This is an important step toward its overall goal of raising $25,000 to help provide bursaries for families in need, so more children and youth can attend Camp Huron this summer without financial barriers standing in the way.
This is already shaping up to be a record year for Camp Huron, and there is still much more that can be accomplished with continued support. Every gift helps make camp possible for more children and youth.
Donations can be made at: www.canadahelps.org/s/jNVCDZ
Parishes and parishioners can play an important role by sharing the campaign, including bulletin inserts, displaying posters, mentioning the campaign in announcements, and inviting others to support Camp Huron.
Anyone who would like to learn how they can play an active role in supporting and promoting the campaign can contact Rodger Moran at rmoran@huron.anglican.ca.
STEWARDSHIP
The first Friday of the month, eNews Weekly will feature a stewardship article. On the remaining Fridays of the month, it will include a brief stewardship "thought" suitable for inclusion in Sunday bulletins. For more information about stewardship initiatives and support, please reach out to kevindixon@diohuron.org.
Pastoral Opportunities and Challenges at the Intersection of Money and Meaning.
At the Stewardship Education Day for clergy on June 12th at St. Jude's London, participants will have an opportunity to face the sometimes uncomfortable place where money and meaningful pastoral care cross paths. This whole day, "Living the Gift: Stewardship in Word and Practice," is meant to equip clergy with the confidence and language to engage conversations about giving as an expression of faith rather than obligation. Through reflection, case studies, and shared experience, participants will explore how to respond pastorally to financial realities while nurturing trust, transparency, and a deeper sense of purpose within their communities.
